Lincoln’s Dreams (Connie Willis)

Lincoln's DreamsLincoln’s Dreams by Connie Willis
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I didn’t expect to be impacted so deeply by this slender volume. But then nearly anything having to do with the Civil War has a tendency to tug at me. I was surprised and delighted to find so much of the narrative set in Fredericksburg, VA?a place I know and love. Willis (no relation to me that I know of) always does a huge amount of research for her work, but she expertly weaves in the details so as to create a solid foundation for her story, rather than to impress her readers.

I’m not quite sure what I expected from this little book. Maybe a quick, entertaining read? What I got instead was another provocative and arresting story that has left me dumbfounded at its brilliant conclusion.
