things might be looking a bit different . . .

There are going to be some changes coming to this website, in terms of design, structure, and content. In case things end up looking a bit weird or become temporarily inaccessible over the next month or so, I just wanted you to know that this will be a work in progress for a while and that I’m likely already in the process of fixing whatever went wrong.

I’ve been looking at the websites of other authors, both indie and traditionally published, for a while. Some of these websites are amazing and awesome in their branding, simplicity, clean design and/or personality. Many others are simply not that great. Some are downright awful. I’d say that my own site has been in the “not that great” category for a while, and I’ll be working to improve that.

So, if you’re reading this and have specific elements you’d like to see, please speak up. Of course, this current redesign won’t be the last I ever do; as a former web designer and developer (two decades ago now), I’m always wanting to tinker with things and as a result the Jennifer Willis site redesign has practically become an annual tradition. And I go a little overboard on all the research I do on surveying existing websites, checking out dozens of WordPress themes and doing live previews, watching videos about various plugins, and so forth. But I’m working toward hitting on a design and structure that can stick around a bit longer with occasional tweaks going forward, instead of implementing another full overhaul every year.

Since my job as an author is to engage and entertain readers, I do want to hear from you about what you’d like to see—and about what you think is just absolutely awful. Website-wise, that is.

Cheers.
